Talking Educating Creative and Entrepreneurial Students with Dr. Yong Zhao

In this episode, I interview Dr. Yong Zhao who currently serves as the Presidential Chair and Director of the Institute for Global and Online Education in the College of Education, University of Oregon, where he is also a Professor in the Department of Educational Measurement, Policy, and Leadership. He is also a professorial fellow at the Mitchell Institute for Health and Education Policy, Victoria University. He was named one of the 2012 10 most influential people in educational technology by the Tech & Learn Magazine.

His works focus on the implications of globalization and technology on education. He has published over 100 articles and 20 books, one being World Class Learners: Educating Creative and Entrepreneurial Students (http://zhaolearning.com/world-class-l..., which is the topic of the interview.

The interview begins with Dr. Zhao discussing how he became involved in educational technology. Following this discussion, Dr. Zhao discusses what he believes are the greatest challenges to the effective use of educational technology in K-12. We then move into a discussion of his book World Class Learners. He discusses why is the “entrepreneurial mindset” missing in our society in general and among our k-12 population in particular. Dr. Zhao discusses ways in which educational technology can help foster the entrepreneurial mindset with students.The interview ends with Dr. Zhao providing advice for educators about integrating educational technology into teaching and learning.
