Remember that old pacifist playthrough idea? This is the same challenge, but going for SSS rank instead. For those who aren't aware, the restrictions are:
1. Don't kill any enemies.
2. Capturing is allowed ONLY for enemies that give you no other choice.
3. Recruit all characters and keep them alive/not captured.
4. Complete the game in under 179 turns.
As you might expect, this is considerably harder than last time around where I didn't care about turn count or recruitment. It goes without saying that this was recorded using savestates and a TON of re-records. I still don't know how to use the RNG search tool, so I had to look for good RN strings by hand (I don't recommend this). I hope you enjoy long RN burns, because this run is heavily manipulated for double actions and level ups.
Notes by chapter:
Chapter 1: The boss is a required capture (1/6).
Chapter 2: The boss is a required capture (2/6).
Chapter 2x: Rifis is a required capture (3/6).
Chapter 3: The boss is a required capture (4/6). I only needed to rescue two of the kids (one for Dalsin, and the other for the Warp staff). I should've let Tanya get captured earlier, so I lost turns here.
Chapter 4: No time to properly train Lara, so I leave Felgus, Machua, Brighton, Dalsin, and a lot of items behind.
Chapter 4x: The initial area was a nightmare, but good for training Lara a bit. I needed to buy time until I could lure Sety toward me. Remember, only player kills count against me. NPCs are fair game.
Chapter 5: Mad dash past everything. I leave Asvel behind, but struggle a bit because I'm forced to carry Nanna around. You'd lose three characters by letting her be captured, so there's no choice. (Ask me how I remembered this when I initially reached Chapter 14 and had to go all the way back...)
Chapter 6: Nothing new here. Recruit Hicks and leave ASAP.
Chapter 7: Nothing new here either. I lure Shiva south to make recruiting easier.
Chapter 8: Thanks to a comment on the previous video (aggroincarnate2763), I learned that the boss is not a required capture. I just need to wait for him to mount his dragon and move away. I used the time to train Leaf and Ronan. As it turns out, the latter is a very useful taxi. Notice that he broke his bow. This turns out to relevant later.
Chapter 9: Nothing new. I sometimes do extra things like visit houses just to have some fun. You'll see this quite a bit.
Chapter 10: The boss is a required capture (5/6). Rifis not having 20 build yet was a liability. It meant he could be captured without a weapon, but if he was armed, he'd destroy whatever came at him.
Chapter 11: I didn't pick up door keys in Chapter 6 like I should have, so this was a bit of a mess. Bottlenecks are the worst enemy in a pacifist run (far worse than any boss).
Chapter 11x: The "War of Dragons" site is inaccurate about what makes the boss retreat. It states that he'll run away after turn 30. More specifically, he retreats when he's unable to take useful action. If he breaks his tomes (too heavy to steal), you can steal his Libro staff to force him to retreat early. Dagda is useful for this purpose.
Chapter 12: Karin has become speed. Salem is the last required capture for SSS rank (6/6).
Chapter 12x: Recruiting Trewd without capturing is a bit tricky. Have to keep that counter low!
Chapter 13: Move growths and double turn manipulation on full display.
Chapter 14: Dean, Pahn, Tina, and Salem training area. No way to speed this up.
Chapter 15: Nothing new. Picked up Ralph and visited a house for fun.
Chapter 16B: I weakened the boss with Dean, and then tricked an enemy into poisoning him to avoid a capture. Leaf needs to visit the castle to recruit Miranda (and therefore Conomore), so I couldn't just leave him.
Chapter 17B: Amalda can move beside the boss with a double turn, so I lure her in. The boss tries to fight her, and fails miserably.
Chapter 18: This is always a mess. I'm sure it could be done more efficiently, but I was just happy to get through it at all.
Chapter 19: Nothing new.
Chapter 20: Nothing new, but I intentionally blocked spots to keep Lenster in good condition.
Chapter 21: Nothing new.
Chapter 21x: I rescued six characters here and left.
Chapter 22: Karin takes a bit of heat off Reinhardt this time.
Chapter 23: Usual two turn completion, but without Warp this time. I just plop Sety in Leaf's path so he can talk to him.
Chapter 24: Total nightmare. I berserk Galzus so he can defeat Leidrick and the goons, but I need to dispel it so Mareeta can recruit him. I lure him to a dark mage and make sure he gets hit. Poison overwrites berserk, so there's no problem anymore.
Chapter 24x: Surprisingly easy once I realized the trick. I warp in, grab problematic staves, and retreat. The "boss" dies from poison damage and leaves the escape tile open.
Chapter 25: Not pretty, but I had turns to spare. Zwei is still my Beldo fighter.
