A heartfelt architectural reunion becomes a poetic Brazilian home.
In 2019, a lifelong friendship between three architects—Fernanda Neiva, Fernanda Palmieri, and Paula Zasnicoff—sparked the creation of Casa Renda, or The Lace House. Built on a foundation of collaboration and shared vision, this modern Brazilian home explores the delicate balance between robustness and elegance, privacy and openness.
Architectural Highlights:
• Woven concrete façade: Inspired by traditional Brazilian lacework, this precast screen offers privacy while filtering light with poetic softness.
• Central garden: Acts as the green heart of the home, linking interior and exterior spaces naturally.
• Seamless spatial flow: Living room, kitchen, veranda, and garden connect through full-height glazing and a continuous material palette.
• Roof terrace: Accessible via the garden, the terrace makes use of the sunny Brazilian climate.
• Concrete as craft: From hand-made cement tiles to precast façade panels and exposed beams, the material grounds the project with warmth and honesty.
Why “Casa Renda”?
"Renda" means lace in Portuguese—a perfect metaphor for the house’s perforated concrete shell. It weaves light and shadow, intimacy and openness, function and form, into a singular architectural expression.
More than a house, Casa Renda is a reunion in built form, where architectural memory, cultural texture, and friendship are etched into every line of concrete.
