I have no clue as to who to credit this video with. The CD was originally issued over 35 years ago, shortly after Portadown FC won their first ever title. They defeated Linfield 2 - 0 at Shamrock Park in the final game of the season. Thousands of Portadown supporters invaded the pitch at the final whistle and celebrated with the manager, Ronnie McFall, and the squad of players.
It's hard to believe that a whole generation has passed since that day, and most of the younger fans will not have seen scenes like these before, when the open terraces were thronged, before the stadium became all seated.
The video also includes the victory parade the following week, when the Portadown players were carried through the town in an open topped bus, to the cheers of thousands of fans. many of the fans had attended the final of the Irish Cup in Belfast on that day, where Portadown had failed to win the double after defeat by Glentoran.
I hope the new generation of fans get to enjoy experiences such as these some day again
