Miss Kitty Graduates From UWI With A Law Degree/JBN

Khadine ‘‘Miss Kitty’ Hylton will graduate from the University of the West Indies, Mona, today Friday, November 2 with first class honours in Law. The vivacious and popular media personality has been named the valedictorian and will speak on behalf of the faculties of Law and Social Sciences.

Hylton’s valedictory address is themed “On the Cusp of Greatness.”

She said, “I really want to give insight into the essence of school life; the impediments, the difficult times faced by students, not being able to pay fees and surviving on a meagre and modest budget, the sleeping in the library and the discipline and sacrifices it takes to cross the Rubicon.”

Juggling school and work was no easy feat, she said.

Miss Kitty said she had to cut out most, if not all of her leisure time. “I can remember that I had a show in Barbados on a Sunday and a criminal law exam the following Tuesday. I flew to Barbados on Saturday, did the show on Sunday, flew back to Jamaica on Monday and did the exam on Tuesday. I had to study on the plane, in my hotel room, and in a little corner on the floor of the airport. I had to pass my exams and I had to earn to continue to fund my education,” she said.

Hylton said, “As a female in media and by extension dancehall, I wanted to be a living, breathing example that you can be in the industry and achieve educational success. The common notion is that women in entertainment tend to sleep their way to the top. Miss Kitty has proven that you don’t have to. You can live off of what’s between your ears and not what’s between your legs,” she added.

“I’m on the most popular entertainment show, Magnum (kings and Queens of Dancehall) and I want to show my versatility, drive, ambition, adaptability and to motivate others. Miss Kitty is not just talk, so when I say beauty and brains it’s not an empty slogan! I inspire by doing it.”
