Madonna took the stage with Miley Cyrus during Miley's Unplugged show to sing a mashup of "We Can't Stop" and "Don't Tell Me" in full cowgirl garb.

Miley Cyrus may not have made it to the GRAMMYs, but tonight at 9 she takes center stage for an MTV Unplugged performance that rivals anything we saw on Sunday.

Katie, don't bury the lead. Madonna was there. She wore a cowboy hat. She sang a mashup of her 2000 hit "Don't Tell Me" with Miley's "We Can't Stop." She even stuck her tongue out for the camera -- just look at this picture. Why can't she stop sticking her tongue out?
KATIE
After Madonna left, Miley told the crowd, "That was pretty f---ing cool, you guys. It was one of those days that was pretty easy to get out of bed. I get to perform with Madonna in bedazzled cowboy boots. I can't really complain about anything,"

Miley is no stranger to stripping down, but for once we're talking about the music. Ok, we're also talking her outfit -- but mostly the music. If you ever wanted to hear Bangerz tracks with some spare arrangements, here's your chance. All she had on stage was a piano, an acoustic guitar, and stringer and two men in a horse costume twerking.

Just the essentials. Now, the country western theme of the night reminded everyone that once-upon-a-time Miley was a Disney star named Hannah Montana. We thought that we'd never see her out of a unitard.

Miley said, "I'm from Nashville and so since I couldn't bring you all to Nashville, I brought Nashville here to you. I'm trying to get you in the country spirit!"

Yes, things were a little bit honky tonk, a little bit turnt up -- but Miley's main mission of the night was to back up her raunchy stage act with some vocal chops.

On tracks like "Drive", "Wrecking Ball" and the emotionally charged "Adore You," Ms. Cyrus set out to show her detractors that she's a singer first, twerker second.
