RAILWAY MUSEUM KEIGHLEY [4K] RAIL STORY VINTAGE CARRIAGES TRUST

Hello again and welcome back to the channel.

I was kindly invited along to film at the Vintage Carriages Trust in Keighley, West Yorkshire in the UK.

RAIL STORY results from a collaboration between the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, the Vintage Carriages Trust and the Bahamas Locomotive Society, giving visitors greater opportunities to learn about and understand the preservation and conservation of our railway heritage.

The Carriage Works is home to one of the finest collections of restored railway carriages in the country. As you walk around the museum you can see carriages dating from 1876 to 1950 highlighting the changes in travel over the years. The oldest carriages show the luxury that First Class passengers could enjoy throughout the Victorian era. The museum is also home to Hudswell Clarke 0-4-0ST No. 402, built in 1893, known as Lord Mayor which is the smallest engine based at the Keighley Worth Valley Railway. This is the engine used in the publicity for the 1970 film The Railway Children which was filmed on the Keighley Worth Valley Railway.

Not only is there a fine selection of carriages the museum is also home to a workshop where you can view the volunteers repairing the vintage carriages. There is also a Magazine Room which is the most magnificent collection of historical railway magazines. You can simply browse the collection or for the enthusiasts most are also for sale if you want to take home a real piece of history.

The Vintage Carriages Trust (VCT) is a volunteer body, based on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. It was formed in 1965 by a group of volunteers whose interest was in wooden bodied carriages. They could see that there was a need to concentrate on the preservation of these historic items which were in grave danger of disappearing due to the weather and vandalism damage and unsuitability for regular use on preserved railways of the day.

The Trust became a Registered Charity (No. 510776) in 1981 and a Registered Museum (No. 1202) in 1992. The Collection held by the Trust is at present nine historic railway carriages, also three small industrial steam locomotives, and a collection of railway posters and other miscellaneous railway items.
The Trust owns the Museum of Rail Travel and in the last twenty years this has developed into a large museum display and associated workshop, and is the Trust's headquarters.

All I can say is WOW as to how fantastic this place is, fantastic staff, volunteers plus an Aladdin’s Cave of Railway History and Nostalgia plus much more.
