Tales from Paul Stanley's "Face The Music"
Unfortunately, Mark met with tragedy after his tenure with KISS.
R.I.P.
Luckily, KISS fans will always have the album Animalize to enjoy what Mark brought to the band.
Paul tells it like it is and holds nothing back, here. So, yeah... Paul has very little good to say about anyone except Paul.
**DISCLAIMER**
Comedy is subjective. The actual truth about Mark's life is a sad one. He secured a position in KISS based on his talent. Gene and Paul are known for the disrespect they tend to show towards musicians they hire to be in the band. Vinnie, Eric Carr... and yes Mark. Not to mention Peter and Ace.
Soon after joining KISS, Mark developed some health issues that prevented him from touring.
To his credit, after being fired from KISS, Mark had some success with White Tiger and some solo work.
Unfortunately in 2006, this happened:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
--from Wikipedia--
"Beginning on September 14, 2006, St. John was incarcerated for several days at Theo Lacy Jail in Orange County, California, after being charged with possession of unspecified drug paraphernalia, attempted destruction of evidence, and resisting arrest. He was initially housed at the facility's D Barracks, a medium-security dormitory for nonviolent offenders. He was later moved to F-West Barracks after telling guards he had stolen crackers from another inmate's property box and was in fear for his safety. A guard allegedly conspired with a group of inmates to have St. John assaulted for the transgression, and subsequently, St. John was brutally beaten and stabbed with pencils by a group of up to 20 inmates."
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Paul Stanley always chooses his works with precision. AFTER reading his book, I noticed Paul actually says "Mark was not the sharpest pencil in the pack". Not a phrase I had ever heard, until then. Obviously, in context, it means "Not the brightest bulb on the tree.." or similar saying. Why Paul would use a "pencil' analogy is beyond me, given what happened to Mark.
Mark will always be remembered as a great guitarist and by all accounts, a nice guy.
