In December 2005, **Sukhwinderjit Singh**, an engineer with QuarkCity in Mohali, Punjab, was tragically murdered. On the night of December 4, while taking a walk with his wife, **Neki Nalwa**, near their residence in Sector 69, he was shot dead

Investigations revealed that Neki conspired with her paramour, **Himmat Singh**, also known as "Brandy," to orchestrate the murder. The couple had been experiencing marital discord and had filed for divorce, although they continued to live under the same roof. citeturn0search2 On the night of the incident, Neki insisted on the walk and informed Himmat of their location. Himmat arrived at the scene and fatally shot Sukhwinderjit.

Both Neki and Himmat were arrested on December 7, 2005, and remained in custody throughout the trial. In June 2012, they were convicted of murder and criminal conspiracy, receiving life sentences. A third individual, **Paramveer Singh**, was convicted of supplying the cartridges used in the crime and was sentenced to six months' imprisonment.

In May 2017, the Governor of Punjab granted pardons to Neki and Himmat, leading to their release. This decision was met with distress by Sukhwinderjit's family, particularly his mother, **Rajinder Kaur**, who expressed profound grief and a sense of injustice.
