Mandela Medley from our new album 'Symphonic Soweto - Tribute to Nelson Mandela' with the Soweto Gospel Choir.

This is a medley consisting of two freedom songs, dedicated to Nelson Mandela. The name ‘Rolihlahla’ (meaning “pulling the branch of a tree” or colloquially “troublemaker”) was the isiXhosa birth name given to Mandela. This powerful revolutionary song calls on the “troublemaker” to speak to the leadership of the African National Congress about the plight of the people, whilst at the same time criticizing the apartheid leadership. This composition portrays the troublemaker’s transition to the brave one and eventually the champion of human rights.

Included in his list of many awards and nominations is a prestigious Grammy® Award, multiple South African Music Awards (SAMA) and the Global Peace Song Award for a solo flute piece for Nelson Mandela called “The Long Road”.
