British singer-songwriter Raye made history at the 2024 Brit Awards, winning six of seven nominations and becoming the first woman to win Songwriter of the Year.

After disclosing on social media that she had been in a seven-year battle with her label, she released her debut album My 21st Century Blues independently, earning both critical and commercial success.

In a 100 Women interview with the BBC’s Kirsty Grant, Raye opens up about the highs and lows of female stardom in the music industry.

She shares how social media has become both a powerful tool and a double-edged sword for female artists and reveals the hidden challenges successful women face.

Raye also dives into the culture of silence surrounding sexual harassment and abuse in the industry as well as her experience navigating music as an independent artist in a world still rife with misogyny.
