I am playing every golf course in Melbourne to find the best course, if you know a better course than this let me know in the comments. This week I played at Sandy Links Golf course in Sandringham. It’s a Future Golf Prestige course so you have to have addict membership to play it. Allegedly this course is maintained by the greenkeepers at Royal Melbourne, now that’s unsubstantiated, I just heard it while playing. What I can tell you is that the facilities are great, the food at the turn is lovely and there are no Par 5’s on this course. And despite that I put up the highest score of any course I played so far. Give the channel a follow, and let’s see how it went.
Hole 1 is a Par 4 355m. I hit a good drive down the middle. It was on a bit of a slope so I thought it would draw but it landed in the trees. I hit a great recovery out and managed to par the 1st.
Hole 2 is a Par 3 150m. I went over the back and had a tough chip at the hole. Unfortunately, I missed the par and took a bogey here.
Hole 3 is a Par4 365m. My drive faded into the sand. There’s sand everywhere on this course. No matter though I because I hit a 7 iron straight at the flag and had a birdie putt which narrowly missed and I took a Par.
Hole 4 is a Par 4 355m. I hit a decent drive which dribbled into the rough. My pitch was obscured by a tree and I pulled it right into the sand. I got out pretty easy but annoyingly missed my par putt and took a bogey.
Hole 5 is a Par 4 365m. My drive hit the fairway and like clockwork my next shot hit the sand. I got it out but it ran a mile and I had a long putt for par. It didn’t go close enough and I ended up missing the bogey and taking a double.
Hole 6 is a Par 4 305m. I hit a great 3-wood off the tee and landed in the centre of the fairway. My approach just got held up in the wind and landed in the bunker. My first bunker shot just narrowly fell short of the green and what a different round I would have had if it made it. I proceed to knock the next shot in the far side bunker and take two more shot to get out of here. Finally finishing out with my first ever quadruple bogey.
Hole 7 is a Par 3 145m. I need to recover and I did. I hit a 7 iron at the pin and had a tap in birdie. Which I missed and took a Par.
Hole 8 is a Par 4 390m. I hit a decent drive down the fairway and hit my approach just over the back of the green. My chip went close and I was able to sink the putt for a par.
Hole 9 is a Par 3 145m. I hit a decent iron off the tee but it bounced off the side and I had a tricky chip back. It left me with longish par putt, which missed and I took a bogey.
The quad bogey killed me on the front and left me with a really disappointing 9 over par. I suppose it’s not too bad it you’re getting a shot on every hole. But par on this course in 65, so it’s pretty dire shooting for me in that regards. I went and got a sausage roll and an ice coffee to ease the pain. But it only made it worse because I was holding up the group behind me.
