Why India is So Concerned About Khalistan Referendum | Panjab Di Gal | Jatinder Singh Mohali |

Diplomatic tensions were triggered after 2023 Sikh protests and Canadian allegations that Indian agents were involved in the assassination of Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in September 2023. Both the sides expelled diplomats and warned against traveling to the other country.

At a news conference in Ottawa , Trudeau said evidence showed that Indian government agents had engaged in activities that “threaten public safety in Canada”, including “clandestine information-gathering techniques, coercive behaviour targeting South Asian Canadians, and involvement in over a dozen threatening and violent acts, including murder”.

He added that the details the RCMP is able to share at the moment are “extremely limited”, but the evidence brought forth by the RCMP “cannot be ignored”.

India rejected the accusations, deeming them “absurd” and in turn ordering the expulsion of Canada’s acting high commissioner and five other diplomats by Saturday.

A statement from the Indian foreign ministry on Monday said: “This latest step follows interactions that have again witnessed assertions without any facts. This leaves little doubt that on the pretext of an investigation, there is a deliberate strategy of smearing India for political gains.”

The foreign ministry statement went on to add: “The Trudeau Government has consciously provided space to violent extremists and terrorists to harass, threaten and intimidate Indian diplomats and community leaders in Canada.”
On the other hand, Gurpatwant Singh Pannu and his organisation Sikhs for Justice is carrying out Khalistan Referendum in several countries like US, UK, Itlay, Australia, Switzerland, Austria and Canada. Sikhs are participating actively in these elections and SFJ is getting a good support worldwide from this compaign.
Now the Khalistan Referendum is being conducted in New Zealand on 17th of November in Auckland. President of Sikhs for Justice, S. Avtar Singh Pannu along with his associates is currently in New Zealand and organising several events in different parts of country to let people know about this Referendum. On 19th October they held a Khalistan Car Rally in Auckland which included more than 500 vehicles and thousands of people gathered. Another Car Rally is being announced in Tauranga on 9th of November, 2024.
