Every year, millions of worn-out vehicle tires reach the end of their lifespan. In this documentary, we take you inside a large-scale industrial recycling factory to show how these discarded tires are transformed into rubberized asphalt used to build modern roads.
The process begins with the controlled handling of old tires, followed by industrial shredding where steel and textile components are removed using powerful magnetic and air-separation systems. The remaining rubber is refined through granulation and precision fine grinding, producing clean crumb rubber with carefully controlled particle size.
This crumb rubber is then blended with heated bitumen inside high-shear reactors, where heat and controlled mixing activate the rubber polymers and create a durable rubberized asphalt binder. The material is stabilized, filtered, and continuously monitored before undergoing strict laboratory testing to verify viscosity, elasticity, and temperature performance.
Finally, the approved binder is transported to road construction sites, mixed with aggregate, and applied on real roads—turning waste tires into long-lasting infrastructure.
