Next is Mega Barbaracle, and I do not like the design for that Pokémon, this is my least favourite new Mega-Evolved Pokémon introduced in this game. The Binacle line is one of my least favourite Pokémon, and I am aware that Binacle is the favourite Pokémon of Tomoaki Imakuni, who did make an appearance in Pokémon Trading Card Game for the Game Boy, but I do not see the appeal to the Binacle line, I just find it forgettable.
Its Mega Stone, Barbaracite, is obtained during the main story when you complete Main Mission 22, and Binacle is obtained as early as Wild Zone 2, and you can find them in Wild Zone 6 and other areas, the Alpha Binacle comes with X-Scissor, and Barbaracle are found in Wild Zone 16, and an Alpha Barbaracle can know Power-Up Punch. I do not like Mega Barbaracle, it doesn't help that Barbaracle is one of my least favourite Pokémon in Gen 6, and they made it look even worse with the Mega Evolution, this thing is monstrosity in Pokémon form, this Pokémon gains even more arms, I could only wonder how worse it would get if Machamp got a Mega Evolution, not sure how they would ruin that. Mega Barbaracle becomes Rock/Fighting-type, so its type matchup is changed, it has a normal weakness to Grass instead of a glaring weakness, but it gains weaknesses to types like Water, Steel, Psychic, and Fairy, its typing has a lot of weaknesses, and for resistances, it has Normal, Fire, Rock, Bug, Dark, and Poison.
For stats, Mega Barbaracle has base 140 Attack, its Attack is boosted by 35, it has a base Defense of 130, so it is a 15 boost to Defense, it gains 20 Special Defense to give it 106, and it also gains 20 Speed to get base 88, but it has 10 more Special Attack to give it base 64 Special Attack, when it shouldn't be using special moves. For comparison, Mega Barbaracle has the same base Attack as some powerful non-Mega Pokémon like Conkeldurr, Darmanitan, Ursaluna, Rhyperior, Iron Hands, and many others, and base 130 Defense is equal to Gigalith, Metagross, Garganacl, and Archaludon, but unlike them, Mega Barbaracle's type combo is really bad, it is weak to many common types. While base 88 Speed isn't fast, Barbaracle can learn Shell Smash in the main series games, so this effectively makes Mega Barbaracle the fastest Shell Smash user in the game.
As it becomes part Fighting-type, Mega Barbaracle does get STAB from Close Combat, and for Rock-type moves, it can get Rock Blast, Rock Slide, and Stone Edge, it has Brick Break for an alternative for a Fighting-type move. It has Liquidation for a Water-type move which it can use for its base form, and for coverage, it can get Night Slash, Dragon Claw, Poison Jab, Shadow Claw, Earthquake, X-Scissor, Dual Chop, Comet Punch, and a few other attacks. Barbaracle can use Bulk Up to boost its Attack and Defense, and it has Power-Up Punch to boost its Attack when it inflicts damage. Barbaracle does have some status options like Screech, Stealth Rock, Taunt, Safeguard, and a few others, and it can boost its Attack stat with Swords Dance. Mega Barbaracle's main attacks are Stone Edge and Close Combat, and it has Liquidation for its main move in its base form, and the fourth move is very tricky to fit in, it learns many coverage moves like Earthquake, Poison Jab, and X-Scissor, and it has Swords Dance to boost its Attack, the downside is that it can only have up to four moves, so it is very hard to fit in all of these moves.
As for how it would work in Pokémon Champions, Mega Barbaracle would be the most overpowered Pokémon in battle, Rock/Fighting is a very powerful offensive type combo, as that is the same type as Terrakion, which has proven to be a top tier threat back in Generation 5, and with Shell Smash, Mega Barbaracle would go beyond that, as its Attack stat is higher than Terrakion's, and if Barbaracle does get Close Combat in Pokémon Champions, this thing would be broken, it does have other Fighting-type moves like Superpower and Cross Chop, but getting Close Combat would make it sweep teams after one use of Shell Smash.
For its Ability, I wouldn't mind if it kept Tough Claws, as Barbaracle does get many contact moves, and when Mega-Evolved, its Close Combat would deal some massive damage to opponents. I have seen some predictions for Hustle, while it would increase the damage potential of its attacks, the downside is it reduces the accuracy of its moves, which would be a drawback to Mega Barbaracle. Compound Eyes can be a good one to help hit often with Stone Edge, but that one would make it too overpowered, so who knows what Ability it would get when it comes to Pokémon Champions.
