French commentary... Despite four semifinals in Paris (1979, 80, 84, 85), Connors never reached the French Open final, a lone major he didn't win. The closest to play in the final he was in 1980 facing his compatriot Gerulaitis in the semis. He saved seven set points in the 3rd set to build a 2-1 lead in sets, but Gerulaitis outplayed him in the next two sets.
