In this episode, Shahzadi, as a South Asian woman, talks about something unrelated to nutrition yet extremely important. It does not matter what your profession and background are because what's happening in the world – particularly in neighbouring America – is a collective issue we MUST tackle.
Shahzadi has been reflecting on how South Asian people perpetuate racial injustice. The recent horrific events have forced Shahzadi to think about the silence within her own South Asian community regarding anti-Black racism. Shahzadi believes we have to acknowledge that it exists because if we don't, that just makes us hypocritical. Racism is not just black and white. In Shahzadi's commentary, she delves deeper into this and shares some proactive ways we can amplify Black voices in the Black Lives Matters Movement to fight racial injustice.

Here are some examples how YOU can amplify Black voices and bring positive change:
⓵Help organisations involved in the Black Lives Matter movement: organisations such as Black Lives Matter (https://secure.actblue.com/donate/ms_..., Reclaim the Block (https://www.reclaimtheblock.org/home) and Black Visions Collective (https://www.northstarhealthcollective...) are taking immediate action to support the movement across the States, and the world.
⓶Funds to help victims: you can donate to loved ones and support them in their investigations through the GoFundMe pages listed on the official Black Lives Matter donation page, which include the George Floyd Memorial Fund (https://www.gofundme.com/f/georgefloyd), the Ahmaud Arbery Fund (https://www.gofundme.com/f/i-run-with..., as well as funds for Regis Korchinski (https://www.gofundme.com/f/justice-fo..., whose death in Toronto is currently under Special Investigative Unit investigation for police brutality.
⓷Support Black businesses and community organizations: there are so many amazing black-owned businesses in Toronto – from restaurants to clothing to retail – here's the link to a 100 of them, located here in Toronto (https://www.blogto.com/city/2020/06/b....
⓸Write a letter of solidarity: detailed information available on websites such as Amnesty Canada (https://www.amnesty.ca/blog/showing-s....
⓹Spread awareness by keeping the subject alive: racism should be talked about on a daily basis, since it takes place on a daily basis. It should never come down to somebody being brutally murdered in order for us to wake up. Keep educating people around you regarding systematic racism, and how abhorrent it is.
