US POLAR VORTEX

First up, we're heading deep into the Polar Vortex. If you've heard the phrases cold snap, deep freeze or frozen pants lately, they're probably referring to the unbelievably freezing conditions causing problems in the US right now.

More than 216 million Americans have been coping with some unbelievably cold temperatures. In some cities as low as MINUS 29 DEGREES – freezing everything from lakes to waterfalls.

Weather like this can be dangerous. At least 11 people have died and many schools, businesses, even zoos have had to close.

In fact, Hell has finally frozen over! (Hell, the town in Michigan, that is).

Far from hell, fires have been lit on these train tracks in Chicago to try to stop them freezing up!

Chicagoans have been experiencing something called 'Frost Quakes' - tremors caused by ice cracking underground!

Some Americans are trying to be chill about the cool weather though, having snowball fights with their friendly law enforcement officers send proudly displaying some very crisp pairs of pants.

EXTREME WEATHER IN AUSTRALIA

Australia’s just capped off its hottest January on record. Which has meant humans and non-humans alike have been busy cooling off. There’s also been a lot of dangerously wet weather too. Townsville up in Queensland's being hit by torrential rain and serious flash flooding. One crocodile even found its way onto a popular highway.

GUIDE DOGS TAKE OVER MELBOURNE TRAM

Some lucky commuters on a tram in Melbourne yesterday were treated to a very cute lesson in guide dog etiquette.

Five guide dogs and their handlers got to ride along on a tram in Melbourne, much to the delight of some lucky commuters.

The event run by Guide Dogs Victoria was all about raising awareness of the important work these guys do and to help promote an exhibition in Melbourne called dialogue in the dark -which gives people a chance to experience what it's like to live as a visually impaired person.

ARIANA GRANDE TATTOO FAIL

If you ever decide to get a tattoo, maybe think about getting it in a language you understand. Otherwise you may end up like poor Ariana Grande.

To celebrate the release of her new song 7 rings, she got the words tattooed on her palm in Japanese characters.

Thing is, when you put the Kanji word for seven next to the Kanji word for rings, like Ariana did, you end up with a word that actually means small charcoal grill.

Ariana tried to fix it by adding the word finger underneath but the fact that she placed it there means the tattoo NOW means "a fiery finger". Dearie me.

SINKHOLE OR SECRET TUNNEL FOR A BANK HEIST?

Ever seen a sinkhole before? It happens when the top layer of the earth falls in, leaving a gaping hole where the ground used to be.

Thing is, one particular sinkhole in Chicago turned out not to be a sinkhole after all!

It was a very narrow secret underground tunnel and police reckon it was going to be used to stage a heist!

Inside there was a small ladder and a pair of muddy boots and police say this rather small tunnel-maker is still at large.

FISH AND CHIPS MADE FROM ENDANGERED SHARKS

Fast food lovers in the UK have had a bit of a surprise when a study found that some of the fish in their fish and chips, is actually endangered shark.

So, some fish sold under the name huss, rock & flake could have actually been shortfin mako or small eye hammerheads.

The fact that these sharks are endangered means people weren't that happy about eating them.
