1:57 Advice part from Günter Pichler
In this chamber music masterclass, Professor Günther Pichler helps students Ingrid Hwang, Karen Nonomura, Meiou Wang and Zhongjia Wu of the Una Chorda Quartet master Johannes Brahms string quartet No. 2 in A Minor.
Pichler first reminds the four musicians to play legato, more calmly, and without stress. The Professor advises them to be focused and precise, to know the score well, as well as respect the nuances. Pichler tells them that irregularities must be corrected, and that the tempo must be maintained.
Furthermore, they must “play beautifully” and avoid putting too much weight on their bows. Everything must be logical, and their hands must stay flexible. Pichler advises them to play slower at first, and then speed up as they become more comfortable with the work.
What we learn:
Playing in a quiet, calm, and stress-free manner.
Knowing the score well.
Paying attention to the tempo and the diminuendos.
Staying focused.
Being careful about any irregularities.
