This stepwell is one of the finest heritage structures in Gujarat and is said to be constructed by Queen Rudabai, wife of Vaghela chief 1499. The marvel of the Adalaj stepwell is manifested through its intrisicaly carved interiors consisting of 5 stories along with its unique structure with 3 side entry. This structure was also a resting of house for many pilgrims and caravans along their trade routes.
