Orca Hunt HD 1080p

Bigg's Orcas are also known as Transient Orcas. These are the killer whales most tours view on trips from Victoria (BC) and Washington State. Resident orcas are also found in the same area but by agreement are pretty much left alone. Residents feed mainly on salmon while Bigg's are mammal hunters feeding on sea lions, porpoises and in this case seals.

While the sequence is not bloody it shows the orcas repeatedly ramming into the seal and slapping it with their tails. This continued for about 5 minutes and I switched to still photography for most of it.There were young whales present and this may have been a training lesson. However orcas are known to use their heads to ram prey like whales and even great white sharks in order to subdue them.

It was a difficult shoot as the boat was rocking, other whale watchers were trying for a good look and you never knew where the seal or the whales would pop up.
