Among the many voices that shaped the musical identity of the New Apostolic Church, Otto Füssgen was a New Apostolic musician and an influential member of the Church Music Work-group in Germany.
One of his most well-known contributions is the hymn "How Joyful Shall It Be", a piece that beautifully captures the anticipation and hope of eternal fellowship with God. This hymn remains a cherished part of New Apostolic worship, inspiring generations through its uplifting melody and profound lyrics.
Beyond his compositions, Füssgen actively contributed to the standardization and enrichment of NAC hymnody, ensuring that church music remained a powerful medium of faith expression. His influence extended to pieces such as "Father, We Come to Thee", arranged by K.P. Gut, another pioneer who shaped the musical identity in South Africa and which continues to hold a special place in New Apostolic choral tradition.
Here is bass-baritone Conroy Scott, accompanied by Robert Bailey on the organ, at the Silvertown Church in Athlone, Cape Town, on the 5th of July 2021.
