Karthigai Deepam
Karthigai Deepam is a festival of lights somewhat similar to Deepavali. It is a traditional festival that is celebrated in the southern parts of India particularly in Tamil Nadu. It is celebrated on the full moon day in the Tamil month of Karthigai corresponding to November-December. It will be a beautiful sight to see the neat rows of oil lamps glowing brightly in front of houses at night on the day of Karthigai Deepam and a few days around that time.
This festival has a special significance as it coincides with the day of birth of Lord Murugan. Lord Karthikeya, the second son of Lord Shiva, also known as Subrahmanya is endearingly called as Murugan in Tamilnadu.
I have presented here the Subrahmanya Pancharatnam, a hymn dedicated to Lord Subrahmanya.
