Carlos Spencer was one of those players who was just brilliant when he was on form. He broke into the Auckland senior side in 1995 and became an All Black in 1996. Unfortunately, he had to compete with Andrew Mehrtens for the All Black no 10 jersey. Merhtens was arguably a more rounded player, but Spencer was phenomenal on the attack. He was the ultimate play maker who wasn't scared to take some risks.
He should have played more tests for the All Blacks.
