I don’t consider myself a trail runner. With this in mind, it might seem foolish or naive to sign up for one of the hardest Ultra Marathons in Canada. Why? What are we thinking? What even is this event?
The Canadian Death Race is a notoriously difficult trail running race in Grande Cache, Alberta.
It’s known for its often brutal weather, aggressive cutoff times and lots and lots of climbing. 2025 is also the 25th annual running of the Death Race.
My good friend Matt convinced myself and two other close friends to join him in taking on this monster of an event. We spent the year training and preparing to the best of our abilities and the whole time, we kept the 24 hour event cutoff time in mind. To make things easier, our incredible wives joined in and provided us all crew support at each of the available Transition Areas on course.
Not being an avid trail runner, would I be able to survive the Death Race before time runs out or my body gives up?
