Spanish Steps and Piazza di Spagna
The Spanish Steps (Scalinata di Trinità dei Monti) are one of Rome's most iconic landmarks, located in the heart of the city at the Piazza di Spagna. Built between 1723 and 1725, the elegant staircase was designed by Francesco de Sanctis and connects the Piazza di Spagna at the base with the Trinità dei Monti church at the top.

The 135 steps were constructed to link the Bourbon Spanish Embassy (hence the name "Spanish Steps") with the church above, and they quickly became a popular meeting place for artists, poets, and tourists. The steps are especially famous for their sweeping, Baroque style and seasonal floral displays, particularly the azaleas in spring.

At the base lies Piazza di Spagna, one of Rome’s most famous squares. The piazza is home to the Fontana della Barcaccia, a Baroque fountain designed by Pietro Bernini and his son Gian Lorenzo Bernini, shaped like a half-sunken boat.

Today, the Spanish Steps and Piazza di Spagna remain a vibrant hub of Roman life, surrounded by luxury shops, historic buildings, and cultural landmarks, making them a must-visit destination in the Eternal City.
