The Pingayak Dancers and Friends perform live on the UAF Davis Concert Hall stage as part of the 2024 Festival of Native Arts.
The Pingayak Dancers and Friends are Cup'ik of the Qissunamiut Tribe from Chevak, Alaska. Their dance leader is John Pingayak, a composer of song and dance, who has shared this art form throughout Alaska and the world. In our Cup'ik culture, Dancing is one of the highest forms of praise, but it is also used to tell stories, and for entertainment. The dance groups consists of the Pingayak family, and friends and relatives from Chevak who could dance with us today.
