His supporters blamed India, torching offices of Prothom Alo and The Daily Star, while mobs attacked Indian diplomatic properties in Dhaka, Rajshahi, and Chittagong. In a separate lynching in Mymensingh, garment worker Deepu Chandra Das was beaten and burned alive over blasphemy allegations, amid 2,442 minority attacks since August 2024.
