The Zafarnama (Zafarnameh in Farsi) is a letter that was sent to Aurangzeb
It was sent after the Battle of Chamkaur, where Mughal Forces betrayed the Khalsa Army
The Mughal Generals & Aurangzeb had made an oath on the Qur’an not to attack Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji and his forces of only 40 men
The promise was such that the Mughals would give clear passage to the Sikhs if they left Anandpur Sahib (their fort & place of residence)
The Sikhs, desperate, forced the Guru’s hand, and made the exit
The Sikhs were then ambushed by the Mughals and had to make a dangerous crossing of the Sirsa Nadi river.
Upon this betrayal, Guru Sahib composed the Zafarnama with 111 verses
The letter is written in Indianized-Court Persian & typically, would be transcribed into Gurmukhi in volumes of Sri Dasam Granth, one of the Sikh Scriptures
