Performance of Penderecki's "Seven Gates of Jerusalem" or "Symphony No. 7", by the Penderecki Festival Orchestra and National Philharmonic Choir Warsaw, conducted by the composer and conductor himself. "Seven Gates of Jerusalem" was written in 1996 to celebrate the third millennium of the city of Jerusalem, and premiered in the city on January 9, 1997. After the work's premiere in Poland two months later, Penderecki decided to call "Seven Gates of Jerusalem" his 7th Symphony. The number 7 is embedded into many aspects of the symphony – it consists of seven movements and is bound together by a system of seven-note phrases.

ABOUT KRZYSZTOF PENDERECKI
Composer and conductor Krzysztof Penderecki (23 November 1933 – 29 March 2020) is one of the most acclaimed composers of Polish descent and a highly renowned, influential figure of 20th-century music culture – within and beyond the sphere of classical music.
Originally a leader of Eastern European avant-garde in the 1960s, he gained fame with sonoristic pieces such as "Anaklasis", "Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima", "St. Luke Passion" or "De Natura Sonoris I", yet increasingly turning to traditional musical forms in the 1970s (represented by works such as "Symphony No. 3"). During his lifetime, Penderecki received a great number of national and international awards (such as the Prize of the UNESCO International Tribune of Composers and the Per Artem Ad Deum Medal) and was an honorary member of institutions such as the Royal Academy of Music.
Due to the adaptation of Penderecki`s pieces for film soundtracks (most notably in Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining" and William Friedkin's "The Exorcist"), and eventually thanks to his recent collaboration with musician and composer Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead, Penderecki is also considered a musical influence within popular culture.
