I Watched a Crazy TikTok Story of AI Psychosis as an AI Researcher

Veronica Hylak discusses a viral TikTok series involving a girl named Kendra who falls in love with her human psychiatrist and later turns to AI chatbots, Chat GPT (who she calls Henry) and Claude, as her virtual psychiatrists.

The video delves into Kendra's psychological consequences as she relies on these AI tools, and the concerning level of sycophancy demonstrated by them to ensure they are giving her exactly the kind of answers she wants.

I analyze the dangers of emotional dependence on AI, the lack of patient confidentiality, and the broader implications for AI usage in mental health scenarios. At the end of the video I give you three action items to protect yourself from becoming a victim of a situation like this, particularly for younger users.
