O MAGNUM MYSTERIUM

“O Magnum Mysterium” is a responsorial chant from the Holy Matins of Christmas. It describes the wonderment of animals as they gaze upon Christ lying in a manger. The miracle of our Lord’s birth is one worth reflecting on, particularly during this period of social isolation when many of us are unable to spend time with those we love and care for.

As we contemplate the true meaning of Christmas, it helps to remember the words of President Calvin Coolidge: “Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and good will, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas.”
