Replacing Bissell Handle Release Foot Lever (a/k/a Detent Lever)

The guys are showing how to replace the foot operated handle lock release lever (Bissell likes to call it the 'detent lever') on the Bissell CleanView upright vacuum.
The part number is #1600777. It fits Bissell models 1816, 1819, 1822, 1823, 1825, 1831, 1831R, 1837, 1838, 18252, 2383, and 2489. It likely fits many other models as well. This part number is for a black part. There is an identical part in gray that probably has a different part number. We found a picture of this part on line and compared it to ours to confirm fit since we could not identify an actual part number for the gray version.
Due to the design of the part, it is probable that the installation procedure on all appropriate models is similar to what is shown here once you gain access to it.
UPDATE: as of Aug 2024, one of our viewers advised that part 1600777 is now discontinued. He further advised that part number 2038075 is a close substitute. Not perfect, requires a bit of extra attention when using, but might be a good option. Thank you for the notice and suggestion, William!
