Kai Berthelsen was a League delegate in the Congo (Léopoldville, now Kinshasa) in the early 1960s, and then an employee from 1964 to 1984. Documents in the written archives indicate that Berthelsen and another delegate, Maurice Frauchiger, assisted the newly independent National Society there with first aid training, as well as with a milk distribution programme, so the certificates may have been awarded for the completion of first aid courses.
