Here are a variety of 1970s TV commercials and PSAs. The commercials are for diverse products such as pet food, tires, toys, margarine, and clothing stores as well as for military recruitment. This compilation takes viewers on a pastel time warp through marketing advertisements of yesteryear. Animated 7-UP cans dance celebrating the American bicentennial, Kool-Aide boasts itself a healthy drink full of Vitamin C and Carnation Breakfast bars make a quick fix for busy mornings. Animal food providers including Friskies and Gaines offer varieties of foods for your furry friends. Marine Corp recruitment ads interject; don’t forget, and Mattel introduces handheld electronic games. It’ll make you want to slip into a can of sweet bubbly 7UP and 1970’s breakfast bars dipped in chocolate and laced with peanut butter.

00:00 7-UP. In 1976 7UP released a commemorative bottle to celebrate the US’s bicentennial birthday. Uncle Sam beckons you to sip one down (12); each can was dressed in a different state. 7UP released Sugar Free 7 UP (1:08) in 1973. Sach’s Furnature in New York ran a week long Veterans special for home owners (1:44). Sach’s followed it up with a Labor Day Furniture Festival (2:35). Mom’s boast the Vitamin C content of Kool-Aide (3:23). In the 1970’s Kool-Aide was rebranding themselves; offering new flavors while emphasizing the pre-sweetened drink contained 6 milligrams of vitamin C. Kool-Aide plays on family bonding time; a housewife and daughter cook together sipping Kool-Aide, decidedly cheaper than soda (4:00). Carnation Breakfast Bars (4:49) offer quick substitutes for home cooked breakfasts. Lives got busier in the 1970’s; standards (and cost) of living continued to increase forcing an on the go lifestyle companies like Carnation marketed directly to. Kool-Aide marketed to the busy house wife needing a sugary drink cheaper than soda to give to her kids. Carnation promoted (6:30) instant non fat dry milk cheaper than fresh milk. Morris the Cat headed the 1970’s 9Lives advertisement campaign (7:13). Morris was adopted from a Humane Society shelter. He appeared in 58 commercials and was awarded two PATSY’s. The film mentions a film studio owned by Charles “Jerry” Bender in Madison, New York (10:44). In 1976 Gaines was offering Country Style Top Choice Dog Food (11:01). Jerry Bender also owned and operated Bender Editorial (11:27). Two women on a park bench chop it up over Gaines Burgers (11:49). Romano Rozeck Film Editors Inc. (12:40) craft a commercial for Gaines Puppy Choice. Carnation (13:28) offers pure beef cuts initially released in 1973. Friday night carnival boys (14:51) toast with RC Cola. RC was running a campaign targeted at the young and unconventional using a sweet tune titled “Me & My RC” sung by Louise Mandrell. A California babe on a board (15:39) grabs pizza and slurping the RC Cola tune. A yellow biplane zips through the country air in another RC advertisement (17:28). “Join the Pepsi People Feelin’ Free” (18:37) was an International Jingle Pepsi utilized composed by Barry Manilow in 1971 at the start of his music career. Brown suited and hard faced Marines (19:06) were looking to recruit, running ‘wannabe Marines ads’ emphasizing the hard trimmed working Marine. Gaines offered 4 stages of dog food to carry the animal through the years (20:35). Ogilvy and Mather; NYC based British advertising agency crafted ads for Mattel electronics (22:00). Mattel began manufacturing handheld electronics geared at the sports fan at the turn of the bicentennial (22:00).
