Ascendant® 107’ Heavy Duty Tractor Drawn Aerial – Rialto Fire Department, CA

Take a walk around the Rialto Fire Department’s #Velocity 107’ heavy-duty Ascendant Tiller. The black over red paint scheme was adopted in 2016 and has been consistent ever since. To prevent back, knee and ankle injuries, the fold down air steps increase safety for the department. Because the city of Rialto, CA serves an urban and wildland area, a 1,500 gpm Waterous pump was added with a 300-gallon water tank.

As you move down the TDA, all compartments are going to store rescue, extrication and rope rescue gear. The department takes EMS calls periodically, so they have also added an EMS compartment to serve those needs. At the end of the apparatus, the tiller cab is air conditioned and can be powered while in the station through a shoreline due to the warmer temperatures in southern California.

Continuing to the driver’s side, the pump panel configuration is consistent with their pumpers back home to make the rigs more uniform. Operating in a clean cab environment is important to the department. To accomplish this, as part of the CARE initiative, they added compartments specifically for equipment and gear.
