Group B Strep Test- Swab YOURSELF at 36 Weeks Pregnant | CajunStork Shorts | 9 months Pregnant

Group Beta Strep (also known as Group B Strep or GBS) is an important test that will be offered in your pregnancy in the 9th month or pregnancy (more specifically, around 36 weeks). This test is performed via a vaginal swab, which means you will have to undress for your dr or midwife to perform the test. Most physicians will follow the test with a vaginal exam, which is an unnecessary exam this early in pregnancy and should be avoided. (Why aren't vaginal exams necessary in pregnancy? Many women prefer to avoid vaginal exams this early in pregnancy. Some women also express this test to be embarrassing or uncomfortable. In my midwifery practice, we encourage mamas to perform the GBS themselves. Here are the instructions I give my BirthHouse mamas.
