Serenata Guajira was originally released in 1968 on Tico Records. Recorded in Mexico, Celia was backed by the Memo Salamanca y Su Orquesta band and the album was produced by Pancho Cristal, New York based Latin music producer, who became known for producing popular Latin artists in the mid-1960s under Alegre and Tico Records. Highlight tracks include the nostalgic opener "Cuando sali de Cuba," the lighthearted cha-cha "Metida con You" and the beautiful love bolero "Esperaré." The recordings features afro-cuban styles including guajira, cha-cha, guaguancó, and bolero; as well as Dominican merengue and salsa.
