Thousands of Pachikas (midday meal cooks) in Bhubaneswar have been staging a protest for the last 5 days at Mahatma Gandhi Marg, demanding their rights in the harsh winter cold.
Their 7-point demands include:
Increase in daily wage (currently ₹80, which they call an insult)
Minimum wage of ₹452 per day
Monthly salary of ₹13,560
Issuance of identity cards
