In this briefing, the Institute of Race Relations (IRR) will unpack the arguments for disbanding the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC), ending the State of Disaster Disaster, and amending the Disaster Management Act in the interests of restoring the norms of South Africa’s constitutional democracy.
Details of the legal, economic, governance, and human rights reasons to resist a permanent Command Council, as well as alternative proposals for returning South Africa to a healthy path of growth, will be laid out by IRR Head of Policy Research, Dr Anthea Jeffery, and Head of Campaigns, Gabriel Crouse.
