How a gift to the O'Brien Institute to fund community-based research is changing lives

In 2014, Gail and David O’Brien made a foundational gift to the University of Calgary's Cumming School of Medicine, which established the O’Brien Institute for Public Health.

Today, the O’Brien Institute is a leader in community-based research, making an impact in health equity and public health policy.

In 2023 the institute's Health Equity HUB helped unlock long-term funding for a community program to combat youth homelessness. This has allowed people like 22-year-old Lexi Marr to have a home of her own.
