This UWB antenna is optimized for 3.3-3.8 GHz and 4.8-5.0 GHz bands used in 5G, and also 2.4GHz used in Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11b/g/n and 802.11a/h/j/n/ac) and Bluetooth (IEEE 802.15.1). The design consists of eight Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) equally spaced slot antennas. High isolation of less than -10dB between antenna elements was achieved by placing the antenna elements a substantial distance away from one another. Simulated results show a wide bandwidth of 2.7-4.9 GHz with a return loss better than -10 dB and 2.4-6.0 GHz with a return loss better than -6dB. A high total efficiency of 86% and an Envelope Correlation Coefficient (ECC) less than 0.03 has been achieved which indicates that design is well suited for MIMO applications. Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) has been simulated which shows the amount of power absorbed by the human head model during operation.

The use of MIMO allows for greater accuracy in indoor positioning and the use of Ultrawideband protocol (IEEE 802.15) for localization.
