Don't get the cart before the horse. Many teach that to be saved, you need a relationship with Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I call this "Relationship Salvation". It is closely related to Lordship Salvation.
But the bible teaches that until we trust Christ as savior we cannot have a relationship with God at all. The relationship with Christ (child of God) comes as a result, as a consequence of our believing the gospel message is true.
Our salvation is the cause of the relationship. The relationship is not the cause of our salvation.
