Bengaluru is set to witness a new era of urban connectivity with the ambitious Namma Metro Red Line—an innovative 36.59 km metro corridor connecting Hebbal in the north to Sarjapur in the south-east. Approved by the Karnataka government in December 2024 and awaiting central approval, this mega project is estimated to cost ₹28,405 crore, making it the most expensive and technically advanced addition to the city’s transit network.
The Red Line, forming the core of Namma Metro Phase 3A, features a unique blend of engineering marvels: about 22.14 km of elevated viaducts including a double-decker flyover section on the Outer Ring Road, and 14.45 km of deep underground tunnels passing through some of Bengaluru’s busiest business districts and tech corridors.
With 28 modern stations, including major interchanges at Hebbal for the Blue and Orange Lines, this project promises seamless transfers to other metro lines, suburban rail, and city buses.
As of October 2025, preparatory works such as a ₹6.86 crore geotechnical soil survey are underway, but full-scale construction will begin only once central government clearance is received.
According to BMRCL, the Red Line is targeted for completion by 2031, and once operational, it is expected to decongest major IT corridors, boost real estate, and transform daily commutes for lakhs of Bengaluru’s residents.
