Oh, beloved Nine. Murray Gold did such an amazing job orchestrating the wounded soul of the 9th Doctor into this haunting theme. There are a range of emotions poured all at once into his theme –sadness, loneliness, fear, and anger. They reflect what the Doctor is struggling with and even trying to run away from. What is most intriguing about this theme is the overall sense of mystery that's threaded with darkness which beg the question – who is the Doctor? The Doctor himself really doesn’t know who he is anymore. What he had to do in the Time War has shaken him to the core. Yet near the end of the score, it takes a lighter note because hope has finally come to him. This hope is in the form of a person – Rose Tyler. Her presence and friendship quickly proves to him that he doesn’t have to be alone anymore and just maybe his burden is not as heavy as it used to be.
