Presenting the SafetyNet EDI Maturity Model - Dr Jenni Murray

The development and delivery of intentional equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) strategies
alongside reporting to ensure accountability are essential to delivering patient safety
research that addresses safety inequities. However, there is currently no mechanism for
exploring the extent to which delivery of an EDI research strategy impacts on organisational
thinking insofar as growth. Maturity models aim to capture, review and assess different
functions within an organisation providing an accountability process which allows for
continuous monitoring and improvement. A small number of EDI maturity models have
been developed however none assess research processes and research culture together.
Across the PSRCs, we developed an EDI maturity model for health and social care
research organisations and piloted this in one site. This session presents this work and
explores future opportunities and potential benefits for its use.

About the speaker:

Dr Jenni Murray is Programme Manager for the NIHR Yorkshire and Humber PSRC. She has been an applied health services researcher for over 30 years publishing widely across many disciplines. She came to patient safety in 2016 working on an NIHR programme grant exploring care transitions for older people and in 2023 she became Programme Manager for NIHR Yorkshire and Humber PSRC and NIHR SafetyNet.
