I got my hands on a real Klon Centaur and I was excited because I wanted to see what the hype was about. I plugged it in, and like man- that thing is rich and smooth. Even still- I was disappointed cause these things cost 5 grand and like as much of a good time as I was having playing it, I had that lingering thought in the back of my head that, my other overdrives sound ridiculously similar. Look, I’m a tone guy like you. I can hear the nuances but to the general listener, I think their ability to tell the difference between a Klon and Tube Screamer is probably slim to none. And in a blind test, it seems that most guitarists can’t really tell either. So I’m going to put myself to the test and see if I can tell the difference between my own overdrives which are the JHS Moonshine, the Fulltone uFlldrive 2 Mosfet, and the Jackson Audio Belle Starr. I've gone through and got the three pedals sounding pretty similar because I love a challenge. My wife in the other room will pick a pedal at random and I’ll have 45 seconds to play and try to gather all of the information I need to make an assessment. Now, let’s begin.
