Polarization refers to the orientation of the electric field vector of an RF (radio frequency) electromagnetic wave as it propagates through space. Since an RF wave consists of both electric and magnetic fields oscillating perpendicular to each other and to the direction of propagation, the polarization is defined by the orientation of the electric field (E-field).
It can be categorized as either linear, circular or elliptical, which is a mix between the two. In this video I provide a detailed description of each polarization type, and consider several applications for polarization control in RF communication systems.
