Founded by Haile Gebrselassie, the Great Ethiopian Run has grown into Africa’s biggest road race unearthing new Ethiopian talents while welcoming over 50,000 mass participants to a carnival‑like festival in Addis Ababa. From legends like Haile Gebrselassie and Tirunesh Dibaba to breakthrough stars such as Senbere Teferi and Biniam Mehari, the race has shaped the future of athletics.
This year’s 25th anniversary was honored with the prestigious World Athletics Heritage Plaque, recognizing its global impact.
For me, it was my ninth in person run, joined by my wife Carole Fuchs. We celebrated twice running both the Toronto virtual 10K and the Addis Ababa race.
Truly a world‑class experience!
