These Simple TRICKS will catch You MORE Spotted bass!?!... Smith Lake, AL

Today's episode brings us to Lewis Smith Lake; a herring fishery in Albama. The goal for this video was to learn more about the lake and what it offers. Getting comfortable with a lake and seeing your options is very important to me for future tournaments! That's why days like this can be so beneficial!

Herring bass are wildly different.... spotted bass main forage are herring which if you don't know, are very quick darting baitfish that tend to roam in large schools in water as deep as you can think of. They are native to the ocean but got introduced to a number of lakes in the south and they thrive in deep water environments. As you can imagine, this can make finding the bass challenging as they can literally be anywhere in the lake chasing a school of herring. Typical patterns for these lakes are points, shallow flats, and creek channels where the herring may get pushed onto or into. Some days herring bass will eat anything that swims in front of their face and other days they may never even attempt to eat your bait. I've seen the ugly side of herring fisheries more than I'd like. The fish tend to get extremely keyed in on a certain profile and if you aren't presenting your bait correctly, they will never commit. It's a fun and interesting challenge that I still continue to work on....
